Charity and Social Justice

Charity, Social Justice, and Service

“Effective social ministry helps the parish not only do more, but be more—more of a reflection of the gospel, more of worshiping and evangelizing people, more of a faithful community. It is an essential part of parish life.”

Communities of Salt and Light, U. S. Bishops, 1993

Charity and Social Justice Ministry promotes the social mission of the parish. Its emphasis is twofold: 1) education and formation of the parish community and 2) organization of parishioners into five complementary ministries: charity and direct service, legislative advocacy, global solidarity, care for creation, and empowerment.

Caring for Creation Ministry

We, the Caring for Creation Committee of St. Aloysius Parish, rooted in Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching, strive to promote and live out the principles articulated in “Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home,” the 2015 encyclical of Pop Francis. We affirm our commitment to ecological conversion and seek to:

Sister Community in El Salvador

Personal Accounts

We, the members of St. Aloysius Parish, desire to grow in relationship with the members of the Christian Base Communities in the Bajo Lempa region of El Salvador. The relationship is rooted in the gospel and the mandate to love one another. We recognize and appreciate that, with both our similarities and our differences, we are all members of the Body of Christ. We believe that this relationship will enrich our faith communities as we share our Christian walk. In the spirit of solidarity, we commit ourselves to work for the common good of each community.

For over 15 years, members of our parish have visited our Sister Community in the Bajo Lempa region of El Salvador. Are you interested in being a part of the next delegation? Contact Rita Amberg Waldref.

Immigration Ministry

Mission Statement
We, the Immigration Committee of St. Aloysius and St. Ann Parishes, rooted in Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching, strive to advocate for immigrants, refugees, asylees, forced migrants, and people on the move. We believe the Gospel calls us to be the voice of the voiceless, especially Dreamers/DACA recipients. We respond to this call through prayer, education, action, and advocacy.

Immigration Ministry is a joint effort of St. Aloysius and St. Ann Parishes to better understand the complex issues of immigration and advocate for immigration reform. The Ministry is divided into five components, providing opportunities for parishioners to decide how and where they wish to be involved, including an immersion experience at the Mexico-AZ Border.
